Divisional Head | Competence Centre for German Export Finance
The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) is part of a network of 150 offices of the German bilateral Chambers of Industry and Commerce abroad in 93 countries. The Chamber is one of the largest national Business Chambers in Singapore with a membership of more than 600 representatives from a variety of industries from Germany and Singapore.
The SGC, a not for profit organisation, has been tasked to promote bilateral Germany-Singapore trade, advise German and Singaporean companies on investment and market opportunities in Singapore and Germany, respectively, and assist these companies in developing international business contacts. This mandate includes the provision of market research, the production and dissemination of publications, and coaching and advisory issues.
Globally operating companies are showing a growing need for advice on German export credit guarantees abroad. To provide the necessary information, the Competence Center for export finance and credit insurance has been established at SGC. The aim is to support German companies and companies creating German added value that are active in the region, with a focus on Southeast Asia.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Maintaining and expanding networks with potential buyers (private/public) and local financers (banks, investment funds, institutional investors)
- Advising German exporters on federal export credit guarantees before and during negotiations with potential local buyers, in particular with regards to availability, conditions, and procedures for applying for federal guarantees
- Support German companies in negotiations with potential business partners
- Promote the concept of German export credit guarantees to local partners and raise awareness for the opportunities and advantages.
- Matchmaking between potential buyers, German exporters and banks.
- Organising seminars and road shows throughout the region
- Participation as speaker or co-organiser in third-party events, e.g. business delegations from Germany, the market development program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), local trade fairs, conferences etc.
- Coaching and training for potential German multipliers (e.g. AHK, GTAI, GIZ, KfW, commercial banks, etc.) represented in the region and suitable local partners (e.g. banks, industry associations, authorities, etc.)
- Regular Reporting to the German federal government about local developments and topics relevant to export financing
- Trouble shooting and advice for local buyers in case of difficulties during the financing process
Your Profile:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in business administration or economics with a focus on balance sheet analysis, financing and/or foreign trade - or Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in legal studies with similar focus;
- Relevant professional and work experience in foreign trade, export financing, or other areas of long-term investment or project financing; in particular, specialist knowledge of German export credit insurance products or comparable products of other OECD ECAs;
- Experience in advising foreign companies on drafting of project and financing concepts as well as market and risk analyses;
- Basic knowledge of international accounting standards (IFRS, US GAAP) including balance sheet and profitability analyses as well as basic knowledge of balance sheet, tax, and insolvency law in relevant countries;
- Basic legal knowledge and understanding of legal contexts;
- Ability to negotiate and communicate in both spoken and written German and English is essential.
- Ability to adopt an independent and structured way of working with a strong focus on customer relations
- Ability to be confident and persuasive in negotiations with international business partners
