SGC 15th Anniversary Networking Luncheon and Dialogue with Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Chan Chun Sing

It was our honour to welcome Minister Chan Chun Sing at the SGCs 15th Anniversary.

Mr Chan noted that given the similar business environments, Singapore is a favourable ASEAN starting point for German and European firms. Many German companies have used Singapore as a base to run extensive operations across multiple ASEAN markets. Mr Chan said that he hopes to see German companies to continue to lead the way and demonstrate by example how Singapore can be a launch pad for EU businesses into ASEAN.

With Germany being Singapore’s largest trade partner in Europe and, conversely, the city state being Germany’s largest trade partner in ASEAN, bilateral trade between both countries has always been strong. This extraordinary partnership will be supported by the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement that will enter into force in 21 Nov 2019 and is a great example of how the EU and Germany want to work together with Singapore and ASEAN to uphold the open and rules-based global trading system as well as advance the shared economic interests.
