Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an intergovernmental organisation whose primary purpose is to promote economic growth and re-gional stability among its members. There are currently ten member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sin-gapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Within the ASEAN states trade is virtually tariff-free, with eleven prioritised sectors for integration. The association also acts as a political platform to maintain peace and stability between its member states and external partners.
