Fact-finding Mission to Laos & Singapore: Pumped Storage and Run-of-River Hydropower Retrofit

22-26 February 2027, Laos & Singapore

Visual Fact-finding Mission to Laos and Singapore

Laos plays a special role in Southeast Asia as a major electricity exporter and aims to consolidate its position as the "battery of Southeast Asia". With more than 80 hydropower plants, it is one of the region's key hydropower locations. Singapore, meanwhile, has a structural need for imported renewable energy, and its role in the ASEAN Power Grid centres on financing, project steering and project development. This fact-finding mission connects the two markets, focusing on pumped storage power plants, as well as the retrofit and modernisation of existing run-of-river hydropower plants.

German companies are invited to join a five-day fact-finding mission comprising briefings, an expert workshop, site visits, meetings with local stakeholders and an Executive Business Roundtable. The mission concludes with a moderated workshop on a joint project and the possible formation of a consortium towards the end of 2027.

What you'll experience:

  • Country briefings presented by the institutions of German Trade Promotion
  • An expert workshop on developments and prospects in the Lao hydropower sector
  • Site visits to the Nam Ngum 1 and Nam Leuk hydropower plants in Laos
  • Group meetings with local companies and institutions that are instrumental in developing renewable regional energy projects in Laos and Singapore
  • An Executive Business Roundtable in Singapore with decision-makers from regulation, finance, power trading and international organisations
  • A closing workshop to discuss a specific project in Laos and the possible formation of a consortium for a follow-up project

Who should join:

German companies from the hydropower sector, particularly those active in pumped storage power plants and the retrofit and modernisation of existing run-of-river hydropower plants.
