SGC Dialogue
A new world order of weaponised interdependence
The liberal, rules-based global order that has shaped the past eight decades is under strain. In its place, a new world order is emerging, marked by greater uncertainty, instability, and the strategic use of economic interdependence as a tool of power. This shift raises important questions about the future of global supply chains, the balance between resilience and efficiency, and the potential impact on costs.
Global economic growth is expected to ease modestly in 2026, from 3.1% in 2025 to around 2.9% in 2026. The United States and Germany are forecast to expand moderately, while China’s growth may weaken further, although the authorities have signalled a stronger commitment to bolstering domestic demand. ASEAN economies proved resilient in 2025, supported by exports and strong AI-driven investment, though a potential correction in the AI boom would require more proactive policy support and flexible currencies.
In this session, Dr Charlie Lay, Managing Director and Senior Economist at Commerzbank AG, will share his outlook on global and regional economic trends for 2026. Drawing on his extensive market experience, Dr Lay will offer practical insights to help business leaders plan and navigate the year ahead with confidence. Join us for this timely and exclusive dialogue.
