THE LÄND enjoys an excellent global reputation as a high-tech, industrial and service-oriented location and occupies leading positions in industries that traditionally typify the German Southwest, such as mechanical engineering, the automotive and healthcare sectors as well as information and communication technologies. Future technologies also present significant growth potential: artificial intelligence, quantum computing and green technology.

This is not only because of its numerous universities, non-university research institutions and knowledge transfer centres, but also because of all those clever minds from industry and society. Their recipe for success is collaboration. A good 71% of local start-ups are supported by established companies – and vice versa. In 19 regional AI labs, and Cyber Valley, Europe’s largest consortium in the field of AI research, people from different disciplines also work together on research into future issues.
