Who we are

The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) is part  of a network of 150 offices of the German bilateral Chambers of  Industry and Commerce abroad in 93 countries. The Chamber is one of the  largest national Business Chambers in Singapore with a membership of  more than 600 representatives from a variety of industries from Germany  and Singapore. The SGC is a valuable and well established networking platform, and is well connected with authorities in Singapore and Germany.

The SGC, a not for profit organisation, has been tasked to promote bilateral Germany-Singapore trade, advise German and Singaporean companies on investment and market opportunities in Singapore and Germany, respectively, and assist these companies in developing international business contacts. This mandate includes the provision of market research, the production and dissemination of publications, and coaching and advisory issues.

The SGC has managed to sustain its continuous growth with developing services to its members and clients.

Admin and Research Assistant

The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) is part of a network of 150 offices of the German bilateral Chambers of Industry and Commerce abroad in 93 countries. Germany Trade & Invest is the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. GTAI aims to strengthen the German economy by informing German companies about export markets, by attracting and advising foreign companies to enter the German market, and by marketing Germany as an attractive business location in Germany as well as abroad. GTAI as well as the SGC are part of the official foreign trade promotion of the Federal Republic of Germany.

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our team as a Research Assistant for Trade and Investment. You will work closely with the Director Trade Singapore/ASEAN and the Head of Investment Promotion of Germany Trade & Invest's Investment Promotion division at the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) to support trade and investment activities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about international business and eager to contribute to economic development.

Responsibilities:

  • Administrative support: Office management and administrative assistance to the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion, ensuring efficient workflow and seamless operations.
  • Appointment coordination: Assist in setting up and organising appointments, ensuring accurate scheduling and efficient communication.
  • Target lists and research: Conduct research on economic development, industry trends, and potential target companies.
  • Event preparation: Assist in organising and preparing events tailored to potential investors, ensuring smooth execution and effective engagement.
  • Presentations: Prepare and translate presentations, and accompany projects as directed by the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion.
  • Investment promotion activities: Gather high-quality information on companies and industrial sectors, conduct research, and compile data to support investment promotion efforts.
  • Trade fair participation: Attend trade fairs and represent our organisation, showcasing investment opportunities in Germany and identifying business opportunities for German companies in Southeast Asia.
  • Statistical analysis: Conduct economic and industry analyses, assess statistical data, and prepare presentations to support informed decision-making.
  • Customer inquiries: Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, providing accurate information and addressing their needs.
  • Press archive maintenance: Set up and maintain a comprehensive press archive, keeping track of relevant news and updates in the industry.
  • Project work: Demonstrate your ability to work on projects effectively, showcasing your organisational skills and ability to perform under pressure.
  • Technical proficiency: Utilize common MS Office programs, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, to analyse data, create reports, and deliver impactful presentations.
  • Interpersonal skills: Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, cultivating effective relationships with customers and colleagues.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Graduate in economics or related fields, with an understanding of economic contexts.
  • Knowledge of the Singapore economy and ideally the entire ASEAN region.
  • Proficiency in research, and data evaluation.
  • International mindset with relevant experience.
  • Understanding of macroeconomic concepts.
  • Passion for international topics.
  • High affinity for Germany as a business location.
  • Proven ability to work on projects and deliver results under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in common MS Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with customers.
  • Fluency in English is necessary and proficient German language skills are desirable as the position requires you to communicate with German stakeholders and prepare written documents, presentations etc. in both languages.

Senior Consultant Trade Promotion

The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) is part of a network of 150 offices of the German bilateral Chambers of Industry and Commerce abroad in 93 countries. The Chamber is one of the largest national Business Chambers in Singapore with a membership of more than 600 representatives from a variety of industries from Germany and Singapore.

We are currently looking for a Senior Consultant to join our team in the Trade Promotion Department “DEinternational”.

DEinternational is the business services and consulting arm of the SGC. The team serves clients in their business needs through business matchings, organising corporate events, trade missions and business trips, market studies and market entry consultancy. Our clients and projects span across a multitude of industries: Energy Efficiency, Smart City, Industry 4.0, Finance, R&D, Biotech, Cyber and Civil Security Technologies and many more. The Senior Consultant is in charge of consulting companies about the Singaporean and German market to further promote bilateral trade between Singapore and Germany.       

Responsibilities:

  • Market Entry Consultation
    • Completing client-specific market research to determine product/service potential and developing tailored market entry strategies
    • Individual business services for customers, such as client-specific research to seek potential business partners
    • Planning of business trips for clients, interested in meeting with potential collaboration partners
  • Project Management
    • Support in planning, preparation and execution of conferences and workshops as well as delegation trips and projects funded by government institutions
    • Compiling comprehensive market studies
  • Acquisition of Market Entry Services
    • Preparation of individual proposals and cost calculations

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 1-3 years of pertinent working experience in trade promotion
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
  • Fluency in German is mandatory as you will be required to prepare reports and documents in German (and will be in constant contact with German speaking clients)
  • Thorough understanding of German (business) culture is required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Teams, Zoom and knowledge of other hybrid event/digitalisation software platforms is a plus
