The German-Singaporean Financial Forum (GSFF) on Sustainable Financing “Tackling Climate Change: How Banks Can Support Singapore”
Morning conference with Networking lunch followed by a Dialogue with Minister Chan Chun Sing, Singapore Minister for Trade and Industry, on the occasion of SGC’s 15th Anniversary
Organized by the Singaporean German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) and the German Embassy Singapore, this forum brings together experts on sustainable development, renewable energy development, green financing and climate change to discuss how banks can support Singapore regarding the challenges of climate change. Following the forum, Minister Chan Chun Sing, Singapore Minister of Trade and Industry will engage in a dialogue on the topic "Seizing opportunities in a challenging global business environment", on the occasion of SGC’s 15th Anniversary.
About the Financial Forum
How does climate change impact Singapore? PM Lee announced in his 2019 National Day Rally speech that Singapore is allocating S$100 billion for climate change mitigating actions to be spread from 50 – 100 years. This stresses the importance of tackling climate change now. According to records, Singapore’s sea level has been rising and the danger for Singapore to be submerged with water is real. Not only that, temperature has also been increasing steadily that resulted to longer dry periods impacting drinking water resources, while causing also intense rainfall that leads to severe flooding. Thinking ahead is necessary. The forum therefore discusses how banks can help Singapore to tackle the impact of climate change.
