The German economic situation and expectations 2010

The general economic recovery is accelerating. Almost 2 years after the culmination of the economic crisis, the optimists among business experts far outweigh the number of sceptics. After the crisis-related setback, many branches of industry are again rapidly catching up in their attempts to fill the capacities available to them. And business activities are improving across the- board: for the domestic business sectors such as the retail trade, construction industry and personal service providers, business expectations are even improving at above-average rates.

The business situation of the companies is pleasing. For the first time since the beginning of the crisis the number of positive assessments of the situation again exceeds the negative ones – even among the industrial companies which were particularly badly affected by the crisis. Exports are now heaving the economy out of this crisis. The basis of this is the worldwide presence of German companies – helped by the weakness of the euro. Increasingly, the domestic economy is providing further stimuli: the building trade is overcoming the slowdown at the beginning of the year caused by the weather; the retail trade and personal service providers even consider their situation to be palpably better than the average of the last few years.
