EGM





An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was held at Conrad Hotel on 5 December 2008 to discuss some proposed amendments to the SGC constitution. The SGC members who were present agreed to all changes.

'Mad about English' - Movie viewing





Ms Lian Pek (c.), Film Director of the documentary film 'Mad about English' gave viewers a little background on her film. The film is about Chinese people learning English prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The movie viewing occured after the EGM.

The SGC co-organized with Invest in Germany a business luncheon with Mr Peter Blumenstengel (c.)from the German Tourist Office Japan as speaker of the luncheon.  H.E Jörg Ranau, German Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore graced the occasion as guest of honor.

Singapore Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam (c.) was the guest speaker in the luncheon organized by the SGC. Minister Shanmugaratnam shared his views on the current economic situation in Singapore.  He also enlightened the members on topics pertaining to the economic ties between Singapore and Germany, as well as Singapore as a gateway to ASEAN.

Germany vs Spain: Euro 2008 Finals





Germany and Spain battled it out in the Euro 2008 Finals. The SGC in cooperation with the Swiss Club organized a live football match viewing at the Swiss Club. Fans gathered at the club in full force cheering the German national team. But Spain prevailed in the end. Though supporters of the German team were disappointed they enjoyed the game just the same. Congratulations to the Spanish team!

Farewell Luncheon with Ambassador Stoecker





H.E Folkmar Stoecker (c. picture, holding certificate), Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Singapore bid farewell to Singapore during a luncheon organized by the SGC. During his speech, he thanked the German business community and the SGC for the good working relations with the Embassy during his stay in Singapore. He also shared with participants some of his experiences in Singapore as well as prior posts in Vietnam, the US, Germany and Italy.

EURO 2008 - Live Football Match Viewing: Germany vs Croatia





The SGC in cooperation with the Swiss Club organized a live viewing of the EURO 2008 football match between Germany and Crotia. Though the German kickers did not win, still everyone who attended especially SGC members and guests enjoyed the game.

Luncheon with Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang





Minister Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore (c.) was the guest speaker during the Luncheon organized by the SGC held at the Orchard Hotel Singapore. He spoke of the very good bilateral relations between Singapore and Germany and also conveyed optimism that trade relations between the two countries will continue to expand in the future.

Participants of the TÜV SÜD Lab visit organized by the SGC had the chance to view the different testing laboratories of the company. They were also briefed how the testing processes are conducted.

Healthcare and Biotechnology Symposium





Mr Lee Yi Shyan (c., 4th from l.), Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore and Mr Ernst Pfister (c., 2nd from r.), Minister of Economic Affairs of the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg were the guest of honours during the symposium. Both Ministers emphasized the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. They also expressed confidence that trade relations between them especially in the healthcare and biotechnology fields will continue to be healthy.

The BMW CleanEnergy and Hydrogen 7exhibition aim to showcase BMW's hydrogen technology as the way forward for individual transportation and mobility. The BMW CleanEnergy concept seeks to provide a drive technology serving to fulfill current and future demand for individual mobility free from fossil fuels Participants at the event were given first-hand information on the Hydrogen 7 cars. They also took a chauffeured test drive of the cars.

Luncheon with German Federal Foreign Affairs Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier





German Federal Foreign Affairs Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier (l.) spoke in front of over 200 participants at the SGC luncheon, which included a high-level business delegation, members of the German parliament, German press, as well as representatives from various local business associations. Minister Steinmeier reaffirmed the good relations between ASEAN and EU as a whole, and Singapore and Germany in particular.

Mr David Goldwich (c.) of Macwürth Team International (MTI) and the former CEO of BVS was the speaker in a breakfast briefing organized by the SGC on 27 February 2008. Especially for leaders, he said that storytelling must be used to overcome negative things in people’s minds. It should also convey positive attitude towards listeners and evoke hope for the future.

The SGC, in support of the Indonesian Business Centre (IBC), together with the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham), Hong Kong Singapore Business Association and the Italian Chamber of Commerce organized an international networking event on Thursday, 31 January 2008.

Guest of honor was the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, HE Mr Wardana.
