Luncheon with His Excellency Ong Keng Yong
H. E. Ong Keng Yong (c.), ASEAN Secretary General spoke on the current status of the ASEAN and he also shared his insights into its perspectives for the future. Furthermore, he gave an overview of the past ASEAN summits, including the ASEAN Summit in Singapore, and presented the main parts of the recently signed ASEAN Charter. 

iMOVE Delegation
The iMOVE Trade Delegation to Singapore that represents ten companies in the field of professional and vocational education was lead by the Parliamentary State Secretary Mr. Andreas Storm (c.). Joining the delegation are members of the German Ministry for Education and Research and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training. 

SGC visits The Singapore Flyer
The SGC visited "The Singapore Flyer", one of Asia’s most exciting and highly visible visitor attractions which will soon open to the public on 1 March 2008. Once finished, it will offer visitors breathtaking, panoramic views of Singapore and beyond. Standing at a stunning 165 metres, the Singapore Flyer offers guests remarkable scenes of the Singapore skyline: the magnificent Marina Bay, towering skyscrapers, tropical greenery, and the bright lights and non-stop action against the beautiful skies. 

Breakfast Briefing on It is time to say “Guten Tag Vietnam” again?
Invited speaker to SGC's breakfast briefing Mr. Damien Duhamel, CEO and Managing Director of Clearstate (c.), spoke to attendees on how to enter the Vietnamese market and gave some useful hints of doing so successfully. 

Luncheon on Connecting Continents: The Role of Global Logistics
Dr Thomas Held (c.), Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Neptune Orient Lines Limited (NOL) spoke on the industry of container shipping and its modern challenges and stressed the importance of continuous innovation and stimulating R&D. 

SGC at GSETA
The SGC exhibited during The 18th Germany-Singapore Environmental Technology Agency (GSETA) Asia-Pacific Regional Seminar 2007. The theme of the seminar, which took place from 23 - 25 October 2007 at the Holiday Inn -The Atrium, Singapore was “Climate Change and Sustainable Tourism”. Senior Parliamentary Secretary Dr Amy Khor was the event’s guest of honor. She also visited the SGC booth and was informed by the SGC staff about the Chamber’s activities as well as that of the SGC Subcommittee Environmental Engineering.

Attended by over a hundred guests, the Rolf Benz, makers of high-end furniture, sponsored B2B proved to be a different kind of networking event. A prize, compliment from the sponsor was drawn and awarded to one of the participants. And as always, attendees enjoyed the good foods and excellent wines and beers during the meeting. 

Breakfast Briefing on Dengue, SARS and Bird Flu - are Businesses Prepared to Survive an Outbreak?
Dr Jeffrey Staples (c.), Medical Director - Consulting Services in Asia, International SOS spoke to members on preparations to be taken during an Dengue, SARS and Bird flu outbreak. 

Breakfast Briefing on China Tax Update – the impact on regional investment
Mr. Claus Schuermann (c.), Shanghai office and Mr. Rex Young (r.), Singapore office, both from PricewaterhouseCoopers elaborated on the issue of the Chinese tax system. They also gave the audience an update on the legislative status of China, followed by information about the tax rates and different preferential tax treatments. 

Breakfast Briefing on Information Technology Infrastructure Library
Modern IT departments are adopting the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), a framework of best practice approaches intended to facilitate the delivery of high quality information technology services. Different speakers were invited by the SGC to share their knowledge on the this topic during this event. 

SGC and SMa signed MoU
The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) and the Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMa) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on 27 September 2007 to boost cooperation between their members. 

Breakfast Briefing on Hiring and Firing - A perspective on common stumbling blocks for foreign companies
On 26 September 2007, the SGC welcomed Mr. Christopher Bridge (l., r.most), Managing Partner of M/s Christopher Bridges to his talk about the legal situation with regard to hiring and terminating an employee in Singapore. 

FH Erfurt Excursion to Singapore
The FH Erfurt-University of Applied Sciences students were impressed by Singapore’s modern and fast transport system as well as the port of the city state. The group's excursion to Singapore was organized by the SGC. 

SGC EE Subcomm met BCA
The Subcommittee (SC) Environmental Engineering (EE) of the SGC met with officials of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Singapore on 20 September 2007. The members of the SC EE made a field trip to see a building that will be transformed into a zero-energy building.

Participants enjoyed the food and drinks offered by the organizers during the business-to-business (B2B) networking organized by the SGC and German Centre, on 20 September 2007. The networking event took place at the German Centre lobby and was attended by over 50 participants. 

Six Sigma – Between Efficiency and Creativity
The SGC welcomed Dr Uwe Kaufmann (c.,l.), Managing Director, and Mr Hector Ramos (c.,r.), Senior Associate from the Centre for Organisational Effectiveness, were the speakers of SGC's breakfast brieifing on “Six Sigma – Between Efficiency and Creativity”. 

Breakfast Briefing on Kwality India
Dr W. Auer von Herrenkirchen (c.,l.), former GM and Snr VP LBBW spoke about his latest publication Kwality India and gave insights to participants on how to invest and make business properly in India. 

Breakfast Briefing on Compensation Landscape in Singapore
Ms Verena Chua (c.) Deputy Business Leader with Information Products & Solutions (IPS) from Mercer Human REsource Consulting Singapore spoke on compensation schemes in Asia and Singapore as well as the factors affecting them. 

Breakfast Briefing on Accelerating Role Transitions to Achieve Leadership Success
Dr Bawany (l. l.) is Head of Transition Coaching Practice, DBM Asia Pacific provided the participants with a deeper understanding as to why transitions are crucial to leadership development and how they can be managed in an efficient and sustainable manner. 

B2B - Business-to-Business networking event
Over 50 participants came to the second B2B at the German Centre lobby. Everyone enjoyed the food an drinks offered by the organizers SGC and GC. The business networking event was a success. 

Breakfast Briefing on What is branding?
Ms Erika Frey (r.), Consultant Rent-a-Suit discussed the importance and impact of branding a product in today's market. She was the guest speaker in a Breakfast Briefing orgnaized by the SGC held at Novotel Clarke Quay on 22 August 2007. 

Luncheon with Prof Norbert Walter
Prof Norbert Walter (c.), Chief Economist of Deutsche Bank, spoke on the topic "World Economic Cycle, Mature Financial Markets Nervous?" during a luncheon organized by the SGC held at the Intercontinental Singapore, on 13 August 2007. 

B2B at the German Centre Lobby
The monthly Business-to-Business (B2B) networking event organized by the SGC and GC was back on 5 July 2007. It was held at the newly renovated GC lobby. Over a hundred participants came and they enjoyed the good food and drinks provided for by the organizers. 

Breakfast Briefing with Dr von Pierer
Dr Heinrich von Pierer (l.), former Chairman of the Supervisory Board Siemens AG spoke of the importance of innovation in today's globalized market. 

Dinner Reception of the Baden Delegation
From 2-5 June 2007 a trade mission of the Industry Association of Baden (Wvib) (Wirtschaftsverband Industrieller Unternehmen Baden e.V.) visited Singapore. Program highlights organized by DEinternational included the visit to the Batam Industrial Park in Indonesia. His Excellency Folkmar Stoecker, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Singapore welcomed delegates of the trade mission at a dinner reception held at the Ambassador's residence. 

SGC Sub Committees meeting with EDB
About 20 people participated in a meeting with the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore officials that discussed talent management and training issues on 25 May 2007. The discusion was initiated by the Sub-committees (SC) Health Care and was opened to all SCs.
The Sub-Committees (SC) are the backbone of the SGC work. They identify areas of interest, voice problems and discuss new topics. They are also the source for background information gathered by Ministries or other official representations. There are currently nine SCs in the SGC:

- Health Care
- Human Resources Asia
- Human Resources Development
- Information Technology
- Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Small and Medium Size Enterprise
- Vocational Training
- Regional Trade


Hamburg Delegation meeting with EDB
SGC Environmental Engineering Sub-committee and the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore representatives met with business representatives of the delegations from the environmental industry from Hamburg on 24 May 2007. 

Luncheon and Dialogue session with the Singapore Tripartism Forum (STF) 
The STF outlined its structure and its role in creating a mutual trust between the unions, employers and the government. Teh luncheon dialogue was organized by the SGC held at the Orchard Hotel Singapore, on 4 May 2007. 

Breakfast Briefing on Corporate Governance: Directors' Duties and Liabilities
Mr Andreas Vogel, German Attorney-at-Law (c.) and resident partner of AV & P Legal gave a very comprehensive overview of legal conditions and duties of a director in an organized breakfast briefing by the SGC.

Minister-President Dr Edmund Stoiber (c.) spoke to the representatives of the German business community in Singapore during the specially arranged Breakfast Dialogue organized by the SGC. 

Breakfast Briefing on Asia 2025-The changes of the demographic landscape and the challenges they present for businesses and governments
Ms Brigitte Holzschneider (c., l.), Gen. Man. of Asian Demographics spoke of the demographic developments in Asia and the challenges they pose today and the future during the breakfast briefing organized by the SGC.


Breakfast Briefing on Singapore Budget 2007
Mr ChooEngChuan, Director of Tax at Ernst & Young Singapore (c.) spoke about the decreaseof the corporate income tax from 20% to 18%, that capital gains remain tax-free, as well as the increase of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from 5% to 7 % during a breakfast briefing organised by the SGC.

Breakfast Briefing on New organisational models for a changing region

Breakfast Briefing with Prof Ludwig Braun
Prof Dr h.c Ludwig Georg Braun, DIHK Pres (c. & r.), was the guest speaker during the breakfast briefing held at the National Library Building, on 31 January 2007. The topic of his presentation centered on Germany and Asia-partnership and competition in the global economy. 

Luncheon on Globalization in a Flat World
Mr David Miller (c.) President of Asia Pacific & Senior VP of Lenovo Group spoke of the proper understanding of globalization by combining the strength of multiple cultures, respecting the different values as well as embracing and understanding emerging markets. |
